Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the campaign's launch yesterday, 6 January, calling it a key step in showcasing Malaysia as a world-class tourist destination while promoting growth across all states.

"With Malaysia's potential as a world-class tourist destination, VM2026 is set to not only enhance tourism but also create jobs and improve the country's global image, driving growth in other sectors beyond tourism," said Tourism Malaysia, according to the New Straits Times.

For 2026, Malaysia has chosen the endangered Malayan sun bear as its campaign mascot, symbolising a commitment to wildlife conservation

The mascots, Wira and Manja, are designed to be playful and approachable to appeal to all ages.

Wira, the male sun bear, wears a "Visit Malaysia 2026" badge on his chest and a batik scarf around his neck.

Manja, the female sun bear, is dressed in a batik sash with a matching bow on her head. Her design also features eyelashes and rosy cheeks to add a touch of charm.

The sun bear replaces the hornbill, which served as the mascot for the 2020 campaign.

The new Visit Malaysia 2026 logo beautifully integrates elements of Malaysia's cultural and natural heritage

The design incorporates batik patterns and colours, representing Malaysia's five major communities — Malays, Chinese, Indians, Sabahans, and Sarawakians.

The font draws inspiration from traditional wood carving, while the inclusion of the hibiscus (Bunga Raya), Malaysia's national flower, ties the logo to its national identity.

The iconic "Malaysia Truly Asia" tagline, first introduced in 1999, has also been updated with a modern touch.

Three major airlines — Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, and Batik Air — are showcasing the campaign through special Visit Malaysia 2026-themed liveries on their aircraft:

  • Malaysia Airlines showcases landmarks like Mount Kinabalu, the Petronas Twin Towers, Merdeka 118, and The Exchange 106.
  • AirAsia features wildlife such as the Malayan sun bear, hornbill, and Malayan tiger.
  • Batik Air displays the Visit Malaysia 2026 logo with the sun bear mascot.
