PH-Led Selangor Bans Alcohol, Cigarettes, And Vape In Public Parks Effective Immediately

The law will be enforced by the local state authorities and violators will be charged a maximum fine of RM1,000.

Selangor has decided to ban alcohol, cigarettes, as well as electronic cigarettes at all public parks effective immediately

The state Local Government, Public Transportation, and New Village Development exco Ng Sze Han made an official announcement at a press conference in Dewan Negeri Selangor today, 14 July.

According to the press release issued on Facebook, he said, "The Selangor state government has added alcohol and smoking activities including vaping to the list of offences in the Selangor State Local Park By-Laws 2005."

Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor will be the first state in Malaysia to implement the ban

Ng added, "Nowadays, a healthy lifestyle is becoming a practice and priority for the people of Malaysia. Playgrounds and recreational parks are also increasingly visited by all walks of life including children and senior citizens for sports and family activities."

"For the comfort and health of the visitors after COVID-19, it is time to ban drinking alcohol and smoking in playgrounds and recreational parks," he said.

Previously, smoking and drinking alcohol were not considered prohibited activities under the Selangor State Local Park By-Laws 2005
