1 Child Among 2 Dead In Batang Kali Landslide

Two people including a child were killed in a landslide at a campsite in Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali this morning, 16 December

The two deceased comprise a woman and a boy.

A total of 79 people were at the campsite when the landslide hit at about 2.24am, Friday.

Apart from the two confirmed dead, 51 other victims are still reported to be missing. They are feared to be buried in the landslide, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement.

Three others were reported injured, while 23 escaped unharmed

"Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing by the Fire and Rescue Department, aided by other agencies including the police, Civil Defence Force, Health Department, and Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART)," the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said in a Facebook post.

The department said that they received an emergency call at about 2.24am on the landslide at the farm in Jalan Genting, Batang Kali, with the rescue teams from various departments arriving at the scene at 3.04am.

The height of the landslide is estimated to be 30m high with an estimated area involved at three acres, according to reports

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are expected to visit the site later today with Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.
