In China, where the people have a special affinity for the Musang King durians, the king of fruits' high demand has caused its price to spike to as much as RM500 per kg

The spike in the price of Musang King durian is due to its lower supply.

The same has also affected the prices locally, where the Musang King was once sold at about RM10 per kilo but now people are ready to fork out as much as RM100.

Seeing how durians are loved in China, Malaysia is grabbing the golden opportunity by exporting four tonnes of it for a festival in November celebrating the king of fruits

In a report by Utusan Malaysia, President of the ASEAN Co-operative Organisation (ACO), Abdul Fattah Abdullah, was quoted saying that it is for the first time ACO will be marketing a total of four tonnes of Musang King at the Durian King Festival taking place from 3 to 5 November in the south-western Chinese city of Nanning.

"As durians get a place among the people in China, Malaysian and regional co-operatives must not miss this golden opportunity to export the king of fruits in large scale," the ACO President was quoted as saying, who further added that he is hoping the marketing of high-quality agricultural products to ASEAN countries and China will increase the income of the co-operative and boost Malaysia's economic standard.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek is expected to open the festival in Nanning

According to the same report in Utusan Malaysia, the opening ceremony of the Durian King Festival, which is beginning from 3 November, will also be attended by representatives from Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA).
