6 Die After Van Carrying Senior Citizens Crashes While Travelling Down Genting Highlands

The accident did not involve any other vehicles.

At 1.15pm today, 8 February, a van carrying 14 people skidded at KM4.8 of Jalan Genting Highlands in Bentong while travelling downhill

Of the 14 people, of which 12 were women, six were killed while eight others were injured.

According to Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Saufi Zakaria, among those who were killed on the spot included five women and the male van driver.

"Firemen used rescue tools to extricate the victims from the wreckage," he said.

The eight injured victims have been taken to a hospital

The van was ferrying a group of senior citizens believed to be from Kedah who had gone to the highlands for vacation. They were on their way home when the accident occurred, reported New Straits Times.

"The accident did not involve any other vehicles. All the injured victims and remains of the dead victims were taken to Bentong Hospital," a state Fire and Rescue department spokesperson was quoted as saying.
