A Healthy Baby Girl Was Born To A Mother Who Had Been Brain-Dead For 117 Days
This event set a record for the longest artificially sustained pregnancy in a brain-dead mother.
Recently, a healthy baby girl was born in the Czech Republic to a mother who had been brain-dead for nearly four months
New Straits Times reported that on Thursday, 15 August, the baby was safely delivered through C-section.
The baby girl, who was born at University Hospital in Brno, weighed 2.13kg and measured 42cm.
The mother was declared brain-dead in April after suffering a haemorrhage when she was 16 weeks pregnant
The 27-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital by a helicopter due to a severe stroke and was declared brain-dead shortly after her arrival, according to the hospital in a press release.
Reuters reported that doctors put the mother on artificial life support to keep her heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs working while monitoring the fetus.
Throughout the pregnancy, the woman underwent routine ultrasounds and doctors regularly moved her legs to simulate walking to help the baby's growth.
The mother's life-support system was turned off after the birth and she passed away surrounded by family, including her husband
The baby girl is now under the care of the family and is nursed by her aunt.
Jakarta Post reported that this event set a record for the longest artificially sustained pregnancy in a brain-dead mother.
