Penang Woman Stabbed 10 Times By Her Neighbour In Elevator Robbery
A 20-year-old woman in Penang recently fell victim to a gruesome robbery where she was stabbed 10 times by the perpetrator
According to New Straits Times, the incident took place at the Taman Seri Damai flats in Jelutong last Wednesday, 8 January.
The woman had been robbed of her purse, containing RM100 and a mobile phone amounting to a total loss of about RM500.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
The suspect, who has been identified as the victim's neighbour, has been placed under remand
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong explained that the 26-year-old man was arrested at the city centre yesterday, as reported by Malay Mail.
He also added that the man was wearing a mask when he attacked the woman but she still recognised him.
"She was relieved of her belongings and sustained 10 knife stab wounds to her back and the suspect fled the scene soon after," he said.
The attacker was detained one day after the incident and was found to have had a criminal record of drug offences
Soffian said that his urine was tested and it came back positive for methamphetamine.
He also highlighted that the suspect has been remanded to assist in the investigation until 15 January and that the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
