The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and academics to discuss the future of water resilience in Malaysia.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), Malaysia's largest water service provider, reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable water management at the launch of the Water Transformation Roadmap 2040 (AIR 2040)
Hosted by the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA), the event was held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) and brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and academics to discuss the future of water resilience in Malaysia.
Under the theme "Air Diperkasa, Rakyat Sejahtera" (Empowering Water, Well-being for All), AIR 2040 prioritises achieving a balance between environmental preservation and financial stability in Malaysia's water sector
A key focus is reducing non-revenue water, water that is produced but not billed due to leaks or unauthorised use, to improve resource efficiency and ensure more consistent water access for Malaysians.
Speaking at the event, Air Selangor CEO Adam Saffian Ghazali emphasised the role of technology and innovation in this mission.
"Technology and innovation are key to ensuring sustainable and efficient water management," he said.
"A balance between environmental preservation and financial stability is crucial for long-term sustainability. Air Selangor is ready to actively contribute to achieving Malaysia's water transformation goals."
In his keynote address, Deputy Prime Minister and PETRA Minister Dato' Sri Fadillah Yusof stressed the urgent need to bolster the water sector against future challenges, including climate change and the rising demand for water
The event highlighted collaboration between the water, energy, and food sectors as a foundational approach to national sustainability, bringing forward ideas to address critical infrastructure needs and policies to support Malaysia's water resilience.
Air Selangor, which serves 9.62 million users across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya, reiterated its goal to lead the Asian water service industry with a commitment to providing safe, clean treated water.
The AIR 2040 roadmap serves as a strategic guide in realising this vision, laying a foundation for stronger, sustainable water infrastructure essential for the nation's future wellbeing.
