Earlier today about 10.35am, Arul Kanda Kandasamy was detained at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters

The former 1MDB group president cum CEO was arrested after it was revealed that he was involved with Najib in the tampering of the Auditor-General's report on 1MDB.

According to NST Online, Arul Kanda arrived at the MACC headquarters at around 9.37am, clad in a blue shirt, dark-coloured pants and a cap. He was believed to have used the back entrance before he was seen registering at the lobby.

He had come to the MACC to facilitate the investigation into the audit report.

He will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow with abetting Najib Razak in committing the alleged offence

His lawyer N. Sivananthan confirmed that Arul Kanda would be charged under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for power abuse.

"He will be charged together with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tomorrow. He's not allowed bail and will be spending a night in the MACC jail.

"He'll be taken to the Jalan Duta court complex tomorrow morning," Sivananthan said.

Unlike Arul Kanda, Najib was allowed bail. While Najib was arrested at around 11am on Monday, 10 December, he was promptly released on bail at 1pm.

In November, Auditor-General Dr Madinah Mohamad revealed that Najib and Arul Kanda were among others who tampered with the 1MDB audit report prepared by the-then A-G Ambrin Buang

While the BN administration had sealed the 1MDB report under the Official Secrets Act upon its release, it was declassified by Pakatan Harapan government.

The report was missing key details about 1MDB, with one of the changes made to the final audit report was the removal of paragraphs mentioning the presence of Jho Low.
