Baby Born In Myvi: Man Shares How His Wife Ended Up Giving Birth In Passenger Seat

A regular morning turned into a dramatic and unforgettable event for a Shah Alam couple when the wife gave birth to a boy in the backseat of their Perodua Myvi on the Federal Highway while heading to hospital
On 17 September, 45-year-old Mohd Hafiz Hassan's wife, associate professor Dr Asiah Lokman, 41, unexpectedly went into labour while they were on their way to the Shah Alam Hospital.
Although their fourth child wasn't due for another month, the couple was caught off guard when Asiah's contractions began intensifying rapidly at around 7am, according to the New Straits Times.
Mohd Hafiz said that they left home as soon as Asiah said she was in pain but what happened next was something the couple had not imagined. The baby decided it was the perfect time to say hello.
He added that while the traffic was clear, the drive was still nerve-wracking.
He recounted the tense moments when, amid the smooth flow of traffic, his wife, seated in the back passenger seat, repeatedly said, "it hurts", before he suddenly heard the unmistakable cries of a newborn
"In that moment, I panicked. I didn't expect my wife to give birth right there," he said, adding that with about 10 minutes left to reach the hospital, he was torn between stopping the car or continuing to drive.
It was Asiah who told him to keep going.
"She assured me that she was fine and asked me to keep driving," Mohd Hafiz said.
Upon their arrival at the hospital's emergency department, medical staff immediately attended to Asiah and their newborn son
"The baby, named Muhammad Ismail, still attached to the umbilical cord, was in my wife's lap. As soon as we reached the hospital, the medical team rushed to help.
"Thankfully, everything went smoothly, and both mother and baby are safe and healthy," he said.
Sharing the story on Facebook, Mohd Hafiz noted that despite being nerve-wracking, the memory of his wife giving birth in their car will be a moment that he will cherish forever.
I appreciate and honour my wife's sacrifice in giving birth to our child, especially this extraordinary delivery.
