Remember the beggar who made headlines for owning a Proton X70? It turns out he earns around RM2,000 a month.

According to Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, the individual works at a local bus company.

“Further investigation found that he is currently employed as a shift supervisor in a bus company, earning around RM2,000 per month. Hence, this individual is no longer eligible for welfare assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM),” Noraini said today in a report by the MalayMail.

The ministry has ceased providing disability allowance to the man

Noraini, responding to a question in the Dewan Rakyat from Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat), added that the ministry has discontinued the man's RM450 monthly allowance effective this month.

The ministry has also issued a warning, along with a letter of undertaking, to ensure that the man no longer engages in begging activities.

The man, who suffers from disabilities in both hands, reportedly earned up to RM500 in less than five hours by begging

The man was caught red-handed last month by JKM while begging at a night market in Maran, Pahang.

Several JKM officers had initially approached the man to inquire about his purpose for begging. He later led them to his Proton X70 to retrieve his identification card (IC).
