Bomoh Arrested For Allegedly Raping A 23-Year-Old Woman While 'Treating' Her
Police believe the bomoh may have sexually assaulted more than 10 of his female patients.
A 67-year-old bomoh has been arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman under the excuse of treating her at his house in Kelantan
According to New Straits Times, the bomoh, or traditional healer, is a former South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) driver. He allegedly raping his female patient last week.
He was arrested from his house in Tendong, Pasir Mas, soon after the victim lodged a police report.
The soon to be married victim, who works as a food stall assistant, claimed the incident happened at about 3pm on Thursday, 14 October
On the day of the alleged incident, the victim with her mother and future husband had gone to the suspect's house, when the victim was taken to the treatment room by the suspect’s wife.
Once in the treatment room, the victim was left alone with the suspect.
"The suspect asked the woman to take off her pants. He then began to molest the victim and eventually raped her," Astro Awani quoted Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Nasaruddin Md Nasir.
"Upon completion of the 'treatment', the suspect warned her not to speak of the incident to anyone and asked the victim to come again for follow-up treatment," Malaysiakini quoted him as saying.
However, the victim told about the incident to her future husband and family.
The suspect has been working as a traditional healer since 1985
"Police also believe the suspect may have performed sexual acts with more than 10 of his patients. However, all victims did not lodge reports," Nasaruddin was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days beginning yesterday, 16 October.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, with Nasaruddin calling on any individual who had been preyed upon by the man to come forward and lodge a report.
