A brave seven-year-old girl saved herself from being abducted in Taman Keramat, KL, on 2 June 2014
AMPANG: Swift action by a seven-year-old has saved her from being abducted when she jumped out of a moving vehicle during a car theft incident in Taman Keramat here.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Khairuldin Saat said in the 12.30pm incident, the girl’s father had left her in his Mitsubishi Triton with the engine running, near a workshop, before a man tried to hijack the vehicle.

According to the girl’s uncle, who only wanted to be known as Hafiz and who was at the scene with his brother, Sham, 35, and niece Sofea at about 12.30pm yesterday at a car workshop, the incident occurred very fast.

He told Bernama that the man who was tall and thin, was believed to be a local, aged in his 30s and wearing a red striped t-shirt.

He was seen alighting from a grey Proton Persona car while talking on his handphone before getting away in the Mitsubishi Triton with the girl in it, Khairuldin said.

The father tried to stop the suspect from leaving with his daughter and car, but the man managed to drive away
Khairuldin added that the father tried to stop the man from leaving the area with his vehicle and daughter, but was unsuccessful.
“It happened very fast. My brother tried to save his daughter who was still in the Mitsubishi Triton as a man tried to steal it. “My brother tried to stop the suspect but he managed to drive away,” he said, adding that his brother also suffered injuries on his hand and legs.

After the father lodged a report with the police at about 1pm, a police team was sent to the scene.
Police later found the traumatised girl 700 metres away from where the car was stolen
The 28-year-old Hafiz said Sofea attempted the escape after the car had travelled about 700m from the scene.

Eyewitnesses saw the girl jumping out of the Mitsubishi Triton. She suffered minor injuries to her waist, hands and feet.
According to Khairuldin, several witnesses saw the girl jump from her father’s vehicle. As a result of the jump from the vehicle which had started moving, the girl sustained minor injuries in the waist, hands and feet, and bruises on her buttocks.

Police are now
recording statements from witnesses to assist in the investigations
“We have recorded statements from a few witnesses to assist in investigations,” he said. “The suspect is believed to be in his early 30s, slim and tall with brownish complexion,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
