#Budget2019: Minimum Wage Set To RM1,100 Nationwide From Jan 2019

The first budget in 61 years was tabled by a new government in Dewan Rakyat today, 2 November.

The new minimum salary in Malaysia will be set at RM1,100 starting January 2019, announced Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng at Parliament today, 2 November

The first budget in 61 years was tabled by a new government in Dewan Rakyat today.

Human Resources Minister M. Kulagesaran previously said in July that the minimum salary for Malaysia would rise to RM1,500

However, he added that the minimum wage will be standardised in stages. 

Later in September, the Prime Minister's office announced that the minimum wage would be set at RM1,050 beginning 1 January, 2019.

In addition, it was announced that Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) will be replacing Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M)

Household monthly income of:

- RM2,000 and below will receive RM1,000,

- RM2,001 to RM3,000 will receive RM750, and

- RM3,001 to RM4,000 will receive RM500.

It was announced that RM5 billion has been allocated for 4.1 million households in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, labour laws will also be reviewed to improve the labour market, workers' welfare, and ban discriminatory practices by employers
