The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) will tighten entry requirements for foreign artistes to hold concerts and performances in Malaysia

Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, said that the initiative will include re-examining guarantees from organisers for foreign artistes to follow the country's laws and regulations, reported Buletin TV3.

KKD will also collaborate with the Committee for Foreign Films and Performances of Foreign Artists (JK-PUSPAL) to conduct research and screening on the behaviour of artistes. This is to ensure that incidents like the one that occurred at Good Vibes Festival 2023 involving the British band The 1975's frontman, Matty Healy, do not happen again.

Fahmi also said that the application period for foreign artistes will be reviewed in order to allow organisers to make more orderly preparations

"I have requested that the chairperson of the PUSPAL Committee re-examine all existing PUSPAL processes, including screening, as requested by the Ministry of Home Affairs," Fahmi told reporters on Sunday, 23 July, after the certificate presentation ceremony for the appointment of the Head of the Madani Community at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam.

On Saturday, 22 July, Fahmi met with Future Sound Asia, the organiser of Good Vibes Festival 2023, to discuss the controversial act performed by Healy during the band's set on the first day of the festival in Sepang.

He then urged the organiser to cancel the remaining days of the festival and to implement a refund system for ticket holders.
