A delivery rider in Penang was recently attacked with a metal rod by a customer's husband
According to Harian Metro, the incident took place in the compounds of an apartment building on Tuesday, 20 April.
Northeast Penang Island District police chief ACP Soffian Santong said that the 40-year-old rider was delivering food to a woman around 4.10pm.
When the rider arrived, he called the customer several times so she could pick up her order but his calls were left unanswered
Soffian explained, "The woman showed up 10 minutes later and the rider left. However, 20 minutes after that, the woman's husband contacted the rider, saying that he wanted to return the food."
"When the rider arrived, a fight ensued between him and the suspect. The suspect accused the rider of scolding his wife during the delivery. He then hit the rider using a metal rod."
The rider sustained injuries to his head and received nine stitches
He filed a police report and the suspect was arrested at his home around 11.15pm last night, 21 April.
"The metal rod used as a weapon to hit the victim was confiscated. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and a remand application will be made in order to further investigate the case," Soffian said.
