49-Year-Old Grab Driver Who Raped An 11-Year-Old Girl Is Now Out On RM10,000 Bail
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
A driver for the e-hailing service Grab was charged with the rape of a minor girl at George Town Sessions Court yesterday, 8 November
The 49-year-old Grab driver committed the crime three years ago against an 11-year-old girl a few times at two locations in both Balik Pulau and George Town districts.
Identified as Teh Kim Huat, he was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which carries maximum 20 years imprisonment and caning upon conviction.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge
The Grab driver, who was unrepresented before Judge Wan Azmah Yaacob, was 46 when he allegedly raped the girl, who is now 14 and has since stopped going to school.
In his appeal for bail, the accused asked the judge for a lower bail amount on the grounds that he has two kids of his own to care for
While Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Aimy Zainul, who prosecuted, urged the judge not to grant bail, judge Wan Azimah allowed an RM10,000 bail with one surety.
The George Town Sessions Court judge fixed 20 December for the mention and to enable the accused to appoint a lawyer, NST Online reported.
