DBKL will construct a 22-kilometre covered pedestrian walkway network designed to connect key landmarks, residential areas, and transit hubs across the capital
During the tabling of the 2027 Budget, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the covered walkways will link major cultural and historic sites, including Masjid Negara, Dataran Merdeka, and Pasar Seni, creating a continuous sheltered pedestrian corridor through the city centre.
Beyond connecting tourist destinations, the infrastructure project focuses on everyday urban mobility
Additional sheltered paths will extend directly from residential neighbourhoods to commercial premises, local schools, healthcare clinics, and public transportation stations.
The initiative aims to provide safe, weather-protected pedestrian routes for daily commuters and residents.
To further enhance accessibility for visitors, DBKL will introduce electric buggy services at major attractions
These vehicles will assist tourists and senior citizens navigating popular destinations, including Tugu Negara, the Perdana Botanical Garden, and Carcosa Seri Negara.
