Govt To Hand Out 'Toilet Of The Year' Award To Encourage More Clean Public Toilets
The restrooms will be judged based on three metrics in the ministry's 'BMW' grading.
Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said his ministry will start handing out a 'Toilet of the Year' award in an effort to stop the phenomenon of dirty public toilets in the city
Nga explained that it is important for public toilets to be in good and clean conditions, as it would affect tourists' first impressions of Malaysia, especially in the main tourist spots or gateways to our country.
"I don't care if people call me the 'toilet minister' because what's important is for me to solve an issue that is close to the hearts of the people," Nga said via Malay Mail.
Recently, Nga shared on Twitter that he visited the public toilet in Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur to inspect its cleanliness.
The restrooms will be judged based on three metrics in the ministry's 'BMW' grading, which stands for "bersih" (clean), "menawan" (attractive), and "wangi" (pleasant smelling)
Nga hopes that the award will encourage improvement of the country's public toilets.
He added that public toilets are part of the essential infrastructure that can ease the burden of the people in a city, the others also include good roads, bright street lights, clean drainage systems, and good regulation.
