Groom In China Overcome With Emotion When Grandma 'Appears' As A Butterfly At His Wedding
Why is there water in my eyes?
A man in China became overwhelmed with emotions when a white butterfly, who he believes to be his deceased grandmother, made a surprise appearance at his wedding ceremony
During the ceremony, the groom, known as Wang, could not hold back tears when the butterfly landed on his wedding coat.
Visibly moved by the unexpected visitor, the groom said that his grandmother had died earlier this year.
As he was sending out invitations to all his friends and family, he felt a pang of sadness realising that his grandmother would not be present for his wedding.
Just days before the ceremony on 24 April, he had written her message, inviting her to the ceremony.
The message reads, "Grandma, there's just a week left before my wedding, and I really want to invite you to the ceremony... if you'd like to join the ceremony, can you come as a butterfly and land on my shoulder? This way, I'll know that you came to see me! If you came, you have to stay for a while. We really miss you, and we will always miss you."
Wang shared that the butterfly landing on his chest was particularly moving to him because it was where his grandmother had rested her head during her final moments
Wang said that he was incredibly close to his grandmother.
"In that moment, I knew that she wanted to hug me and listen to my heartbeat," he said in a separate video.
Netizens were in awe of the touching scene, sharing that his story had moved them to tears
"Oh my god, the moment the butterfly landed [on his chest], I got goosebumps all over my body," one netizen commented.
"If science can't explain it, leave it to love," another said.
The tender moment has also inspired a number of artworks on Chinese social media.
An artist, @画画的郭彬, shared an artwork on their Douyin account with the caption, "I have been thinking about how to draw this picture for a long time, and finally painted it. I firmly believe that longing and love can transcend through time, space, and boundaries.
