An uprooted tree in front of Muzium Negara on Jalan Travers caused minor injuries to a motorcyclist and a driver whose car was also left damaged, yesterday, 27 May

Brickfields district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the incident happened during heavy downpour and strong winds at around 3.05pm yesterday, reported Bernama.

He said in a statement released yesterday that the fallen tree — which is believed to be half a century old — had hit a white Proton Saga and a motorcycle.

"Two foreigners who were traveling in a Proton Saga escaped unhurt and a motorcyclist sustained light injuries. The motorcyclist was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment," he was quoted saying to New Straits Times.

Rescue personnel received an emergency call at around 3.21pm, a Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson disclosed in a statement

Following the call, a team of rescuers were immediately sent to the scene, reported Malay Mail.

The spokesperson said that the rescue team had found, upon arrival, that the driver of the car had managed to free himself unscathed.

He added that the motorcyclist suffered minor injuries to his legs.

According to the statement, a fire team that was headed by operations commander senior officer Md Izzat Ahmad had proceeded to cut the tree and clear the road once they arrived at the location.

It was reported that traffic was held up for more than an hour as the uprooted tree had blocked the entire road

New Straits Times reported that the large uprooted tree had blocked Jalan Travers from Bangsar heading to the city centre. The tree branches had also reached the opposite lane.

This caused traffic to come to a complete standstill on both sides of the road for more than an hour.

The affected roads had been closed for tree removal works, reported the Kuala Lumpur City Hall's Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS).

The road was reopened following the removal of the tree at 7pm yesterday.
