Flight D7377, an AirAsia X A330-300 aircraft, encountered severe turbulence mid-flight on Thursday. It was en route to KL from Taipei, carrying a total of 302 people onboard.

Among the 302 people onboard, 11 were crew members and 291 were passengers.

In the severe turbulence, while five passengers were injured, luckily, no one was killed.

A footage of the incident taken onboard the budget carrier went viral on social media. It showed a flight stewardess on the floor and a flight steward tightly gripping onto the side compartments in the plane for balance.

While AirAsia X confirmed the incident, it did not provide any details on the extent of the injuries the five passengers sustained or if hospitalisation was required.

In the video sounds of someone crying could be heard, and food and some utensils were strewn about on the floor

The footage, showing the intense moment inside the flight, shows a terrified air hostess asking if her colleague is dead. The staff members are pictured lying on the ground of the AirAsia X flight with trays of food scattered around them.

As severe turbulence rocked the flight, sending shivers down the spines of the people onboard, terrified cabin crew members can be seen trying to remain calm

While food trays are sent flying by the force of the turbulence hit flight's movement, screams and shouts of "Don't move" and "It's going to be alright" can be heard

Despite the turbulence, though, Flight D7377 landed safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) at 4.30pm

In a statement, the airlines said: "The aircraft landed safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 at 4.30pm. Five injured passengers were treated by paramedics at the airport upon landing. All other passengers were attended to by ground staff and provided necessary assistance."

Just last month, a Malaysian Airline flight skidded off the runway at Sibu airport. It was carrying 67 people onboard.
