Locals Are Shocked At The Current State Of Tok Bali Beach In Kelantan
Visitors have had to put up with waste such as empty plastic bottles, rotten wood, and dry leaves scattered in heaps along the sandy beach lined with casuarina and coconut trees.
Some of the waste from Kelantan's recent flood has damaged the beauty of Pantai Tok Bali, a place that is famous with both local and foreign tourists
Tok Bali beach is one of the main attractions in Kelantan for its secluded location that is far from the hustle and bustle of big crowds.
The current situation of the beach, however, doesn't look too appealing as the flood has badly impacted the state.
Visitors have had to put up with waste such as empty plastic bottles, rotten wood, and dry leaves scattered in heaps along the sandy beach lined with casuarina and coconut trees.
Siti Masyitah Mohd Sekeri, a 30-year-old visitor from Johor Bahru, was shocked to see the condition of the beach, as she went there with her children during the school holidays.
"It was beautiful when I came here three years ago, and I was hoping it would have been maintained in its pristine condition, but I was shocked at what I saw today. There is rubbish in heaps here and there. It is very saddening," Bernama quoted her as saying.
The flood has left a range of impacts on humans and the environment in general
A nature lover who loves the beach and sea, Mohd Zulfadhli Rosley, thinks that an unkempt beach would jeopardise not only tourism in Tok Bali, but also the habitat of marine life.
"I hope the authorities will give serious attention to this matter and not neglect the responsibility to keep the Tok Bali beach clean," the 31-year-old man from Pengkalan Chepa said.
As someone who lives nearby, 49-year-old Zakaria Harun said that he and his family had to evacuate to a relief centre after the water level rise to their thighs on 18 December.
"The heaps of waste at the beach could have been left behind by the floods. I had to clear the waste that had collected around my house," the flood victim said.
