The driver of a Toyota Vios travelling with an entire banana tree lying across his car and protruding out its windows in Skudai, Johor Bahru has been slapped with a fine

According to Malay Mail, the incident that obstructed road users on Jalan Persiaran Utama, Mutiara Rini was caught on video and went viral on social media.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 30-year-old local man was tracked down and issued a summons under LN 166/59 Rule 20 for carrying a load with an improper vehicle.

The police found that the driver was not the owner of the vehicle

Dzulkhairi said the police contacted the vehicle owner, who was in Singapore, to provide a statement on Saturday, 28 November. Unable to return to the country, the owner sent his son to explain the situation.

"[The owner's son said] the vehicle was driven by his cousin and the banana tree was for a prayer ceremony in Mutiara Rini," the police chief said in a statement.

The 30-year-old driver finally turned himself in to the Iskandar Puteri traffic police station at 9.30am on Sunday, 29 November

Dzulkhairi said checks revealed that the driver had 18 traffic summonses, including four arrest warrants and 10 non-compoundable summonses.

The driver was made to settle six of the outstanding summonses, amounting to RM1,200, at the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court on Sunday itself.

Additionally, the Toyota Vios was confiscated under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for having an expired road tax.
