Man Killed After Crashing Into Pillar At SUKE Construction Site

The vehicle's engine caught on fire and the man died at the scene.

A man was killed in a tragic accident after crashing into a pillar at the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway project site

According to Harian Metro, the incident took place around 5am today, 17 March, near a petrol station in Bandar Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

The victim, who is the driver of a Proton Persona, has been identified as 37-year-old Ong Woei Yiap.

The man is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before hitting the side of a Perodua Viva in the next lane and slamming against a flyover pillar

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya told The Star that the vehicle's engine caught on fire and he died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries to his head and internal organs.

Meanwhile, the other driver involved in the accident escaped unharmed.

Firemen from the Sungai Besi Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene

Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia Kuala Lumpur operations commander Mohd Fakhrulsyakia Mamat explained to Sinar Harian that when his team arrived, they noticed that the engine caught on fire with 20% damage.

"A man was found stuck in the driver's seat before he was extracted and pronounced dead by paramedics."

The case has been handed over to the police and the rescue operation ended at 6.28am.
