"These aren't just regular cars; they belong to the rich. But clearly, their brains didn't come with the price tag," the woman ranted in the video.

A Malaysian woman recently took to TikTok to call out what she believed to be rule-breakers for using the emergency lane. However, netizens pointed out that she was the one in the wrong.

In the viral video, which is over a minute long, the woman driving in the left lane was heard calling out drivers for "misusing" the emergency lane, believing they were flouting traffic laws.

"Look at this — so many drivers are using the emergency lane! And there's more! What's your problem? Do you see this?" the woman yells, urging police to take action against the drivers.

"These aren't just regular cars; they belong to the rich. But clearly, their brains didn't come with the price tag. What is happening? I get it — you don't want to deal with Malaysia's traffic jams, but that doesn't mean you can misuse the emergency lane," she ranted in the video, which has over 100,000 views.

The netizens took to the comments section to point out that there was a signboard in the background indicating that the emergency lane was a Smart Lane, legally open for use during certain hours and days

"Sis, check the signboard before complaining," one user commented.

"Some people just don't read signs. Then, they honk at others who are actually following the rules," another user wrote.

Others explained that the Malaysian Highway Authority activates Smart Lanes during specific hours — typically from 8am to 10pm on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays —to ease congestion.

However, the confusion highlights a shift in perception regarding emergency lanes, as a local journalist from South China Morning Post weighed in on X, noting, "Malaysia went from decades of vilifying people who use emergency lanes as selfish idiots to designating its use as 'smart'. There is bound to be confusion in the interim."
