[OFFICIAL] Azmin Ali Takes Hulu Kelang Seat By Winning 1.6% More Votes Than PH Opponent
He received 1,617, or 1.6%, more votes than Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli.
Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has clinched the Hulu Kelang state assembly seat with a razor-thin margin
The former member of parliament (MP) received 25,597 votes, or 51.6% of the total votes.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli received 23,980 votes, or 48.4% of the total votes, reported Myundi.
In other words, Azmin won the state assembly seat by gaining 1.6% more votes.
Azmin's win in the Selangor state election is significant as he had lost the Gombak parliamentary seat to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, his former mentee, by 12,729 votes during the 15th General Election (GE15).
Juwairiya is Amirudin's aide.
This is not the first time he secured the Hulu Kelang state assembly seat, as he also won it in 1999 under PKR following the imprisonment of then deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1998 when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the prime minister.
He was Selangor menteri besar for more than three years between September 2014 and May 2018. He eventually left PKR and joined Bersatu, a component party in PN, in August 2022 after his instrumental role in bringing down the PH administration during the 2020 political crisis, dubbed the "Sheraton Move".
