Penang Wedding Guests Urged To Go For COVID-19 Screening After An Attendee Tests Positive

The COVID-19 positive guest had contracted the virus from the Sungai cluster in Kedah.

The Seberang Perai Tengah district health office is calling on guests who attended a wedding in Bukit Indera Muda, Bukit Mertajam on 29 August to contact them immediately

Guests who attended the akad nikah (solemnisation) ceremony of Fatin and Azlan have been urged to get themselves screened after one guest tested positive for COVID-19.

A notice about the issue made its rounds on Facebook yesterday afternoon, 8 September.

Penang Health Department director Dr Asmayani Khalib has since confirmed that the notice was issued by the district health office

According to New Straits Times, the health authorities are now obtaining further details on the wedding such as the number of guests present.

"My officers are conducting the line listing. They are doing their very best with regards to this," she told the English daily, adding that that was the only information she had.

She said although the host had prepared the QR code for guests' registration during the event, some may not have checked in.

The case is now being treated at a hospital in Alor Setar.

All guests who attended the ceremony should report themselves to the Seberang Perai Tengah district health office, or contact them at +604-53977884.
