The police have urged a woman to lodge a report after she claimed to have been sexually harassed inside an MRT

The woman uploaded a 31-second clip on her Twitter account, in which the alleged harasser, who was dressed in a red collared shirt and a black cap, can be seen sitting across the victim while scrolling on his phone.

Before she took the video, the victim alleged that the man pointed his phone's camera at her as soon as he stepped inside the MRT.

She initially assumed the commuter was simply using his phone, but he then allegedly moved right in front of her seat while still pointing the phone in her direction.

The victim finally realised that she was being recorded and began yelling at the alleged harasser, asking him why he was filming her.

"What are you recording? Delete it now or I'll call the police!" she shouted at the man.

In a state of panic, the man allegedly went on his phone and deleted the video he recorded

The victim continued to yell at the alleged harasser and asked again if she should call the cops, to which the man replied, "There's no video."

"Of course, there wasn't any video because I told him to delete it. I just got off work, don't you have better things to do besides recording people?" she wrote in her Twitter thread.

She also claimed that throughout the rest of the MRT ride, the man "acted busy" on his phone.

The woman told SAYS that she uploaded the video to raise awareness among other MRT commuters.

Cheras district police chief ACP Zam Halim Jamaluddin stated that the video was brought to the attention of the police on Thursday, 11 May, at around 9.55 am

"The video clip alleges that an individual was sexually harassed in an MRT coach from Cheras headed to Pusat Bandaraya, near a shopping mall," he said in a statement.

"Based on our checks, no police report has been lodged over the incident so far," he added.

He went on to say that the victim should come forward and file a report regarding the incident so that the police can conduct an investigation.

Zam Halim also urged the public to refrain from making assumptions about the case as it could cause confusion and public anxiety.
