Prank Gone Wrong: 16-Year-Old M'sian Teen Dies In Fire Near Abandoned Toilet
Instead of running away from the fire, the half-awake victim ran into the abandoned toilet that was ablaze.
A 16-year-old teenager was burnt to death in a fire caused by his friends who wanted to play a prank on him
According to Sin Chew Daily, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said that the group of three were hanging out together at an abandoned public toilet at Bandar Puncak Alam Phase 3, Selangor, at 2.38pm on Sunday, 28 August.
The group was allegedly secondary school friends, studying at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Puncak Alam 3.
The victim, identified as Muhamad Damin Mikhail Kansol, was allegedly sleeping on a couch situated outside the public toilet while his two friends were playing games in the toilet, reported Berita Harian.
Deciding to play a prank on the victim, one of the teenagers lit the couch on fire from below while the victim was sound asleep.
Once the couch caught on fire, the two friends ran into the public toilet to watch the scene from inside, wanting to see their friend's reaction.
Unfortunately, the fire began to spread out of control, causing smoke to fill the structure.
This caused the victim's two friends to run out of the toilet in a panic while the victim woke up from his sleep due to the commotion.
In his semi-conscious state, instead of running away from the smoke and fire, the victim ran into the public toilet. The victim's friends tried to put the fire out but were unsuccessful and the fire continued to spread, reported Sin Chew Daily.
19 firefighters and four fire trucks from the Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were alerted and called to the scene.
When the firefighters arrived, they found that the victim’s body was already charred and the fire had been put out, reported Bernama.
"We then removed the victim's body...the body was then handed over to the police for further action," said Norazam.
