Syed Saddiq Claims He Was Forced To Model To Raise Funds Amid Struggle For Govt Funding
The Muar lawmaker said he has secured RM1 million for his constituents after becoming a model.
Muar member of parliament (MP) Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has become a model for a fashion brand to secure donations for his constituents after failing to obtain government funding
The former youth and sports minister stated that his attempts to obtain allocations from the government have not been successful, reported Berita Harian.
"I have tried many times to apply for allocations, but I was not successful... that is why I turned to modelling. Some MPs were angry that I became a model.
"I was forced to become a model, and Alhamdulillah, I finally secured a donation of RM1 million for the Muar constituents," he said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, 18 February.
Previously, Pakatan Harapan's lawmaker Syerleena Abdul Rashid criticised Syed Saddiq for neglecting the people of Muar as he frequently collaborated with singer and actress Bella Astillah in promoting a brand's Raya clothes.
Syed Saddiq called on the government to clarify whether or not opposition lawmakers would receive allocations for their constituents
"Regarding the allocations as Muar MP, I have been consistent and have attempted to negotiate several times. I followed the advice of the Prime Minister [Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim] to negotiate with the Deputy Prime Minister [Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof].
"I have negotiated five times, sent letter after letter. Over 400 days have passed, but the funding from the government at the Muar parliamentary service centre remains at zero ringgit.
"If you do not want to give it, just say it in this House. Don't be two-faced, saying one thing outside, another inside, then something else again outside," he said.
He urged the government to practise mature politics by supporting voters regardless of political affiliation.
