A video of a woman saving a drowning child in Yunnan, China has gone viral.

But what really caught netizens' attention was the fact she was wearing a qipao and a sheet mask over her face.

Many online have dubbed the woman "Mask Qipao Lady", praising her for her quick-thinking when she performed CPR on a little girl who had almost drowned in a hotel swimming pool on 10 February.

In the video, the woman, known only as Peng, can be seen calmly administering CPR while offering words of encouragement to the young girl.

"It's okay. Be brave, little girl," she can be heard saying in the video.

Peng was treating herself to a facial mask session when she heard the child's mother rushing into the pool to retrieve her child

The young girl had fallen silent, her face turning purple from lack of oxygen by the time she was pulled from the pool. Peng sprang into action, performing CPR on the little girl for about three to five minutes.

"I am also a mother and have a daughter," Peng told local media.

Although she had no formal first aid training, she had diligently learnt basic life-saving techniques from online videos. In that critical moment, she said her hands moved instinctively.

"It was not until I heard the girl crying that I started to tremble and my hands and feet went numb," Peng recounted.

But her efforts, along with the quick response of the police and medical personnel, ultimately saved the girl's life. The young girl gradually regained consciousness and was transported to a hospital, where she made a full recovery.

Netizens were impressed by Peng's heroic actions, flooding social media with messages of praise and gratitude.

"The mask woman saved the person and didn't even take off her mask," one user commended.

Others emphasised the importance of first aid knowledge, with one user urging, "CPR and the Heimlich manoeuvre should be popularised."

A witness at the scene provided further context, saluting Peng's decisive action: "I was there, and the young lady really acted quickly and called 120 [the police] immediately. While calling, she clamped the phone with her shoulder and began to perform CPR. It was so cool."
