A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after reportedly choking on a gummy candy he purchased outside his school in Butterworth, Penang

The boy, identified as Mohamad Fahmi Hafiz Mohamad Fakhruddin, is currently in critical condition and remains unconscious in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Penang Hospital.

His aunt, Siti Farhani Mohamad Fikri, 33, shared an emotional plea on social media, urging the public to pray for his recovery, reported the New Straits Times.

According to Siti Farhani, Fahmi bought an eyeball-shaped gummy from a stall outside his school. The incident occurred at approximately 2.30pm yesterday, 18 February, when he choked on the candy and collapsed during class. He was immediately rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

"He is entirely dependent on oxygen at the moment," she told New Straits Times.

Siti Farhani added that when the family received Fahmi's clothes at the hospital, they found another gummy in his pocket, which raised further concerns about the potential dangers of such candies

She has since taken to Facebook to seek prayers and support for Fahmi, describing him as an 'anak syurga' (child of heaven) and pleading for a miracle for his recovery.

"The most important thing now is my nephew's recovery. We can only place our trust in Allah and the doctors who are caring for him," she was quoted as saying.
