Come 14 March 2019, Swedish furniture brand IKEA will open its first outlet in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia in Batu Kawan, Penang. The outlet will be IKEA's fourth in the country.
On Friday, 15 February, IKEA Malaysia held the Batu Kawan store's Roof Capping event, a Swedish tradition to celebrate the end of construction, and store opening countdown ceremony, during which IKEA took the opportunity to unveil features of the massive store while expressing gratitude to those who helped in the building phase.
The IKEA Batu Kawan store - spanning over 470,000 square feet (43,600 square metres) of retail space - is massive AF!
It features over 8,000 well designed, functional and affordable Swedish home furnishing products and will have 49 showrooms, market, and a restaurant that sits 756 people.
It will also have have a bakery with freshly baked bread and pastries.
"We expect it will attract about 50,000 visitors per week after the opening," IKEA Malaysia store manager Arumugam Pathmalingam was quoted as saying by Bernama.

The showrooms will feature dozens of inspirational room settings.
A market hall area to provide everything from cookware to candles.
The restaurant will serve IKEA's famous Swedish meatballs.
There will also be a supervised children's play area to give parents the time they need to shop with everything in the store available to be taken home the same day.
The IKEA Batu Kawan also puts emphasis on sustainability.
It comes pre-installed with many features such as photovoltaic solar panels, rainwater capture, energy recovery equipment, parking bays for eco-friendly vehicles, etc.
The store is complemented with 1,950 parking bays.

Where exactly is it located and what are the store timings?
It is situated at 752, Persiaran Cassia Selatan 8, 14110 Bandar Cassia, Penang.
It is easily accessible via the second Penang Bridge from the island and major highways, such as Lebuhraya Bandar Cassia and North-South Expressway.
The store will begin operations at 10.00am on Thursday, 14 March 2019.
