2 Cops Arrested For Alleged Rape And Robbery Of College Students

Two policemen were arrested yesterday, 11 January, on charges of extortion and sexual assault involving two private college students in Ampang, Selangor
According to Selangor district police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the incident occurred on 9 January at 10pm when the complainants, an Uzbek national and her Malaysian friend, were at Bukit Ampang, reported the New Straits Times.
He said the victims were apprehended by the two fully uniformed policemen, who subsequently took the complainant and her friend to separate locations.
"During the incident, one of the suspects sexually assaulted the female complainant, while the male complainant was taken to a bank to settle payments demanded by the suspects for traffic offences," he said.
Following the incident, Hussein said the policemen were arrested the next day, 10 January, by a team of policemen from the Ampang district police headquarters. They have been remanded for seven days.
According to a police report sighted by the New Straits Times, the female complainant was allegedly raped by one of the suspects.
The suspects, both in their 20s and 30s, hold the ranks of Constable and Lance Corporal, respectively, reported Sinar Daily.
In the aftermath of the incident, Hussein stated the police would not compromise with any officers involved in criminal cases or misconduct
He also emphasised that the investigations would be conducted transparently.
"For both cases, two investigation papers have been opened, one under Section 376 of the Penal Code and the other under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code. If found guilty under Section 376, the suspects could face imprisonment for up to 20 years and caning," he said.
"For offences under Sections 395/397, the maximum penalty is also 20 years imprisonment, with the possibility of a fine or caning," he added.
