A Malaysian woman living in the UK who went missing two weeks ago was found dead with her head missing from her body on Sunday, 27 June

67-year-old Chong Mee Kuen β€” or Mee Kuen Chong as reported in the UK media β€” went missing on 11 June.

According to The Independent, Chong, also known as Deborah, was last seen in Wembley, London, where she lived.

It is learnt that she had been living in the UK capital since 2004.

Chong's body was found in the woodland near the coastal town of Salcombe, Devon on Sunday, reported BBC.

Local police believed that the body had been there for some days. They are currently appealing for information to help trace the last movements of Chong.

"They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen Mrs Chong between Thursday, 10 June, and Sunday, 27 June," a police spokesman said.

Local media did not mention whether Chong's family has been informed of her passing.

Following the discovery of the body, detectives said Chong's death is currently being treated as "unexplained"

Devon and Cornwall Police detective superintendent Ben Deer said they do not know when she died, her movements between 10 June and when she was found on 27 June, or the circumstances leading up to her death, reported Mirror UK.

A police source confirmed that the body was found without a head.

On 15 June, Brent Metropolitan Police put up a social media post to alert Chong's disappearance and ask members of the public to contact the police if they could help locate the 67-year-old.

In the wake of the incident, the police warned residents in Salcombe not to be alarmed by the "high level of police activity" in the coming days

"Police would like to reassure the public that while this discovery may cause some concerns in the community, the heightened police presence is to investigate all of the circumstances," a spokesman said.

The Independent noted that the woodland where Chong's body was found is a popular location for people to bring their dogs out for a walk.

According to the official Salcombe Tourist Information Centre's website, the coastal town is said to have "golden sand beaches and with incredible sea views".

The town has a population of about 1,600 and is located about 350km southeast of London.
