UMNO has settled the RM50 million fine required for Datuk Seri Najib Razak to qualify to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest

In a statement today, 6 November, UMNO secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party has completed all payment procedures at the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning.

"UMNO would like to announce that the total funds collected through the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund, which was launched on September 18 to assist former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, has reached its target and is sufficient.

"UMNO would like to express its highest gratitude to Allah and record a message of appreciation to UMNO members throughout Malaysia and the public who have continuously contributed to the provided account since day one," said Asyraf Wajdi.

According to FMT, Najib's lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee and special officer Ahmad Lutfi Azhar were earlier seen at the High Court payment counter before proceeding to the criminal registry office.

Farhan later confirmed that the fine had been paid, adding, "We are still here sorting out the necessary documents."

The RM50 fine settlement comes after Utusan Malaysia reported that two individuals representing Najib were at the court to facilitate its payment.

Earlier in the morning, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said she was unaware of any plans to pay for her husband's RM50 million fine

Speaking to reporters at Kuala Lumpur courts complex, Rosmah said neither her or her family knows the details of the payment.

"I do not know. You all know better.

"The family does not know and I am not being told about it," New Straits Times quoted her as saying.

On Wednesday, 4 November, Muhammad Farhan told the media that he was unaware of any arrangements to pay for Najib's fine.

In July 2020, Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after being convicted on seven corruption charges in the SRC International case.

His prison sentence was subsequently reduced by half to six years in early 2024 following a decision by the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

On 18 September, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028.
