Uncle David Who Sold Pokémon Plushies In PJ Has Passed Away At 68 Years Old
Rest in peace.
Known for selling adorable Pokémon soft toys in Petaling Jaya, Uncle David has recently passed away at the age of 68
In an interview with SAYS, Uncle David's son, Rafeal Fika Phillips, said that his father passed away on Sunday, 4 October.
His son explained that over the past year, the toy peddler had been in and out of the hospital due to several reasons.
However, last Thursday, 1 October, he was found unresponsive at home.
"He had diabetes and his heart was failing. The final push was when he was at home on Thursday and we found him unresponsive. We called an ambulance to pick him up," he said.
"After checks, the hospital said that he had a lung infection. Previously, he was already diagnosed with an infection but they said that it wasn't serious and it had cleared up. But then it turned out that the infection was very bad and because of that, his lungs and kidneys failed."
The family also noted that they do not expect to receive any aid from the public
Rafaeal told SAYS, "People have approached me and offered help when he started receiving treatment at the hospital, but I honestly do not wish to ask people for help."
In a Facebook post, Rafeal revealed that his father's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 7 October, at the Cheras Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Christian Crematorium and Cemetery.
Over the years, Uncle David has garnered popularity for selling cheap soft toys in front of HSBC Bank at Damansara Utama
At the peak of the Pokémon Go craze in 2016, people from all over Klang Valley would come all the way to buy plushies from the uncle who only sold them for RM10 each.
