[VIDEO] Dr Maszlee Announces He Is Stepping Down As Education Minister

He said that he is resigning from the Cabinet on the Prime Minister's advice.

Dr Maszlee Malik has stepped down as the Minister of Education, hours after it was reported that he is tendering his resignation

"With a heavy heart, and as advised by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, I, Maszlee Malik, resign from my position as Minister of Education to the Prime Minister effective 3 January," Dr Maszlee said at a special press conference in Putrajaya on Thursday, 2 January.

Dr Mahathir, who accepted Dr Maszlee's resignation letter, thanked him for his service as a Cabinet member. He also added that Dr Maszlee's replacement will be announced at a later date.
