[VIDEO] Passersby Ignore Injured Woman Lying Motionless After Snatch Theft In Bangsar
The victim was walking when a man on a motorcycle grabbed her bag, causing her to fall.
A 78-year-old woman was seriously injured in a snatch theft in Bangsar early yesterday morning, 7 October, with CCTV footage revealing passersby initially failing to offer assistance
Brickfields police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident occurred at about 6.30am on Jalan Limau Manis while the elderly woman was on her usual morning walk to buy a newspaper.
The CCTV footage shows a man on a motorcycle snatching the woman's handbag, causing her to fall onto the road. The impact left her motionless and bleeding from the head.
The woman was subsequently rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.
"There was significant bleeding in her head and the victim is still under medical observation," he said.
"There were no valuables in the bag," Ku Mashariman said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery.
Shockingly, the CCTV footage also shows several people walking by the injured woman without offering help. It took a few minutes before several concerned passersby finally came to her aid.
The video has sparked outrage online, with many expressing anger over the apparent indifference of those who initially walked past the injured woman.
"Those first two people who saw her did not even bother to help. What a selfish society we are living in," one netizen commented on FMT's YouTube channel.
"What makes my blood boil is those who passed by and didn't even bother to help," another commented, while another expressed sadness over the lack of empathy shown towards the elderly woman.
