TMJ Unveils Return Of Saturday-Sunday Weekend Schedule For Johor Starting In 2025

The move has been approved by the King of Malaysia.

Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Ibrahim has just announced the return of weekend off days to be on Saturdays and Sundays starting from 1 January 2025

In a post on X today, 7 October, His Majesty wrote, "With the consent and blessing of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and after considering the views of the Johor Islamic Religious Council (JAINJ), I would like to announce that starting 1 January 2025, Johor's official weekend will be changed to Saturday and Sunday."

He has instructed Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and the Johor mufti to thoroughly examine and consider all aspects of the matter.

Tunku Ismail also expressed hope that both the private and government sectors, as well as related parties, will accommodate Muslim workers by providing sufficient time for Friday prayers

According to the New Straits Times, Johor has observed Friday and Saturday as its official weekend since 2014.
