Videos Show Fire Burning Down Iconic Furniture Store Beside LDP
Many netizens compared the recent fire to a similar incident in Puchong in 2018.
Videos showing a fire engulfing the Plaza Perabot LDP furniture shop located beside the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) on Jalan SS8/7, Petaling Jaya, went viral on social media over the weekend
According to the New Straits Times, the fire and rescue department received a distress call about the fire at 10.46pm last Friday, 4 October.
Videos surfaced online showing a fire engulfing most of the two-storey premises, which spanned around 20,000sq ft — equivalent to over 22 badminton courts.
A 35-second clip, recorded by a driver at the scene, shows two lanes heading towards Puchong on the LDP being cordoned off to maintain a safe distance from the fire.
The person recording the video commented on feeling the heat from their car, saying, "Woah, I can feel the heat here. My forehead is [hurting]."
A separate 21-second video from an aerial shot reveals that most of the building's roofs had collapsed due to the fire.
Selangor fire and rescue department director Wan Razali Wan Ismail said the fire destroyed 90% of the premises
Firefighters from six fire stations — Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Penchala, Puchong, Subang Jaya, and Serdang — were deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire.
"The fire was brought under control by around 11.30pm, and fully extinguished within three hours," he said.
Efforts to extinguish the remnants of the fire and begin restoration continued until the morning of Saturday, 5 October.
A witness told SAYS that they saw firefighters working at the scene on Saturday.
Wan Razali added, "There were no casualties reported, and the fire forensic unit is still investigating the scene to determine the cause of the fire."
According to information on its Facebook page, Plaza Perabot LDP housed 16 retailers offering a variety of products, including sofas, carpets, bedroom sets, mattresses, kitchen cabinets, office furniture, and more.
The large furniture mall was a landmark for many LDP road users and Petaling Jaya residents.
