A farmer in China was recently bitten on the finger by a cobra while working in his field

His wife rushed to help, attempting to remove the venom by sucking the wound without any protective measures.

According to the South China Morning Post, she was mimicking a scene from a television show she had watched.

The rescue attempt backfired immediately, leaving both of them hospitalised

While the husband suffered from dizziness and a swollen wound, his wife soon developed severe numbness across her mouth, face, and limbs.

The incident happened in Yuanyang County, Yunnan Province.

Doctors at Honghe Prefecture No 3 People's Hospital treated the couple with antivenom serum injections. Their conditions later stabilised, and they were discharged a few days later.

Medical experts warned that sucking out venom is a dangerous misconception

The rich supply of capillaries in the oral mucosa allows toxins to enter the bloodstream instantly.

They also advised against cutting the wound or applying ice.

The bizarre incident quickly gained traction on social media platforms.

"It taught us that what is shown in TV dramas is sometimes not reliable," an online observer said.
