Sivasangari Beats Gilis To Reach A Gold-Level Final At London Squash Classic 2024

Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam has now become the first Malaysian to reach a gold-level final since Datuk Nicol David in 2015
Sivasangari achieved this feat by stunning World No. 4 Nele Gilis of Belgium, in sets 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9, to win USD108,500 (approximately RM512,608) in finals of the London Squash Classic 2014 on Sunday, 31 March.
On Saturday, 30 March, Sivasangari had also stunned World No. 1 and seven-time world champion Nour El Sherbini of Egypt, with sets 11-9, 11-9, in the quarter-finals.
After her historic feat, Sivasangari said that while she had a tough time since her major accident in 2022, she's happy that her hard work is paying off
"That felt like five hours on the court! It's crazy, I've played Nele three times and lost to her three times, it's always close. When I had match balls and couldn't convert… but I'm just so happy," she told PSA World Tour.
"Nele is a fighter. She fights for every point like we saw in the fourth. I spoke to Jesse [Engelbrecht], my mental coach, and just tried to forget that as quickly as possible and just reset in the fifth. I kept believing in myself, staying focused, and I'm just glad to make it."
