Standard Chartered KL Marathon Cancelled Due To Unhealthy Level Of Haze
The organisers were left with no choice as the haze had reached unhealthy levels in KL.
According to a statement posted on the Standard Chartered KL Marathon's Facebook page, the event, scheduled to take place on 4 October, is now cancelled due to the haze enveloping Kuala Lumpur
The event organisers, acting on the advice from the medical team, the Malaysian Athletics Federation, and the Institut Sukan Negara, were left with no choice as the haze had reached unhealthy levels
"The health and safety of all our runners remains our top priority. Since our last announcement, the haze has unfortunately reached unhealthy levels according to the latest monitored alert," the statement said.
The statement further gave details for registered participants:
Registered participants are advised to directly proceed to Dataran Merdeka with their race bib to collect their race entitlements from 6.00 am until 12.00 noon, 4th October.
For those who are unable to collect their entitlements during this time, alternative arrangements will be announced through the Standard Chartered KL Marathon social media channels.
Meanwhile, following the cancellation, route closures and support infrastructure will remain in place along these roads:
Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Cenderawasih, Jalan Lembah and Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin on 4th October 2015, from 6.00 am until 9.00 am.
facebook.comCommenting on the cancellation announcement, participants and social media users, who back in July were not settling for a change of date of the marathon from 4 to 10 October, showed remarkable understanding towards the decision taken by organisers:
