Police in Thailand's Udon Thani Province have reportedly used ChatGPT to track down a hit-and-run driver responsible for the deaths of two individuals on 6 July
According to the Bangkok Post, the driver fled the scene immediately following the fatal collision. Authorities, however, subsequently discovered a small automotive component at the crime scene, believed to belong to the suspect's vehicle.
Police then used ChatGPT to analyse a picture of the recovered car part
ChatGPT's response was quick and precise. In under three seconds, it identified the part as likely belonging to a Toyota Hilux Vigo Champ, potentially a minor facelift model from years 2011 to 2015.
It also identified the component as a "front bumper upper reinforcement", bearing the part number 52113-0K140.
This highly specific information proved instrumental in helping investigators significantly narrow down their search and effectively focus on locating the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
Ultimately, police managed to identify the vehicle, leading to the driver's arrest

Some details were shared on one of the investigators' Facebook pages, quickly gaining widespread attention online.
The public largely commended the police for their innovative approach, specifically praising their smart use of AI to push the investigation forward. However, specific details of the case remain undisclosed.
