The Cabinet yesterday decided to place several government agencies under the purview of the newly established Digital Ministry

During a press conference yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the agencies involved were Digital Nasional Bhd, CyberSecurity Malaysia, the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit and Malaysia Digital Economy Corp.

He also said CyberSecurity Malaysia, which was previously under the Prime Minister's Office, would be rebranded.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will continue to operate under the Communications Ministry

Besides that, the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS) will be moved back to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

"However, the MyDigital ID function will remain temporarily under the Prime Minister's Office. It will be managed by the digital ministry after March," said Fahmi.

MIMOS is the agency in charge of the MyDigital ID project, a digital self-identification and authentication tool to verify user identities in online transactions.

The government will soon announce plans to transition from one wholesale network to a dual network

Fahmi also shared that the 5G network has been successfully implemented in 80.2% of populated areas in Malaysia as of 31 December last year, surpassing initial targets.
