Malaysians will have a new entrant in the electric vehicle (EV) market

According to a post on the automaker's social media platform, the much-anticipated Smart #1 EV will be launching in Malaysia today, November 21.

Smart is a German EV marque owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz. The distribution of Smart EVs in Malaysia will be handled by Proton's specialised subsidiary, Pro-Net.

The Smart #1 has been designed by Mercedes-Benz, and is constructed on the Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform, which was developed by Geely.

The Smart #1 will be offered in three variants: Pro, Premium, and Brabus

The Pro and Premium variations feature a rear-wheel-drive electric motor with a robust output of 272PS maximum power and 343Nm peak torque. This powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in a swift 6.7 seconds.

For the high-performance variant, the Smart #1 Brabus is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering an impressive 428PS and 543Nm. This enhanced setup propels the EV to achieve the century sprint in a remarkable 3.9 seconds.

The Pro trim is paired with a 49-kWh LFP battery pack, providing a commendable range of 315km. On the other hand, the Premium and Brabus variants feature a larger 66-kWh NMC battery unit, extending the range to an impressive 400-440km.

The Smart #1 has various advanced features, including a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch head-up display, and a 12.8-inch infotainment unit. Connectivity options include support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The interior is further enhanced with dual-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats offering heating and ventilation functions, and an ambient lighting system with 64 colours.

Certain variants will be equipped with CyberSparks Matrix LED headlamps, sequential turn signals, a panoramic roof, and a powered tailgate with hands-free access.

The Brabus variant receives special treatment to differentiate it from its other cousins

The Brabus variant of the Smart #1 boasts exclusive features such as an aero kit, distinctive red exterior accents, 19-inch 'Dynamo' two-tone wheels, Brabus emblems, and a unique grey/red interior theme.

The interior is further accentuated with microfiber seat upholstery, and the steering wheel is wrapped in leather, adding a touch of luxury to this high-performance variant.
