Almost four years since the release of the PlayStation 5 (PS5), Sony has officially revealed the long-rumoured PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro)
The new console is set to launch this November at a starting price of USD699.99 (RM3,033).
Sony said the PS5 Pro will offer gamers a more powerful experience, featuring advanced graphics and AI-driven upscaling technology.
So, what sets the PS5 Pro apart from its predecessor? Alongside the announcement, Sony shared some specs highlighting several noticeable upgrades, particularly in terms of design.

Beneath the hood, the new console will come with a larger graphics processing unit (GPU), enhanced ray tracing capabilities, and machine learning-powered upscaling.
According to PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny, this mid-gen refresh is designed to deliver the high frame rates that gamers desire.
One of the standout features is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI technology that enhances image clarity by adding finer detail.
According to Sony Interactive Entertainment's Platform Business Group chief executive officer Hideaki Nishino, the PS5 Pro offers a much more powerful and smoother gaming experience
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Nishino highlighted that the PS5 Pro's GPU boasts 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 and offers 28% faster memory, resulting in up to 45% faster rendering.
Ray tracing has also received a significant boost, providing more realistic light reflections and refractions. The PS5 Pro will be able to cast light rays at double or even triple the speeds of the base PS5, allowing for more immersive gaming experiences.
The PS5 Pro includes a 2TB SSD, a DualSense controller, and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. It supports Wi-Fi 7, giving users faster and more reliable Internet connectivity, provided they're in regions where Wi-Fi 7 is available.
A wide range of upcoming and existing games will benefit from the PS5 Pro’s enhanced features, including favourites like Alan Wake 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
All these titles will feature a ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ label, indicating optimisations for the new console.
In case you're wondering, yes, you can run all existing PS5 games on the PS5 Pro. Sony confirmed that the same user interface, online community, and multiplayer features will remain.
Also, the PS5 Pro supports backward compatibility with more than 8,500 PlayStation 4 games, some of which will also benefit from performance improvements through PS5 Pro’s Game Boost.
Sony also confirmed that all existing PS5 accessories will be compatible with the PS5 Pro once pre-orders begin in late September
These include the PlayStation VR2, the DualSense Edge controller, and the Pulse Elite wireless headset, among others.
Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro will begin on 26 September 2024 at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers globally. General pre-orders will open on 10 October.
