Chinese luxury electric vehicle manufacturer Voyah, a premium subsidiary under Dongfeng Motor Group, has achieved an automotive feat by completing a physical 360-degree upside-down tunnel loop

The daredevil stunt serves as a direct real-life recreation of the legendary 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG commercial, in which seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher famously appeared to drive along a tunnel ceiling.

While the original German advertisement sparked a decade-long debate over its reliance on computer-generated imagery (CGI), Voyah physically executed the loop in a specialised, closed testing facility in Wuhan, China.

Completing the loop required mathematical and mechanical precision, leaving zero margin for error

Entering the curve at exactly 130km/h, the driver guided the vehicle along the curved tunnel wall at a precise 16-degree steering angle.

The car relied entirely on massive centrifugal force to stay pressed against the tunnel ceiling, leaving no room for error. A minor speed reduction of just 3 to 5km/h would reduce traction enough to cause the car to lose contact with the ceiling.

Unlike lightweight hypercars or heavily modified stunt vehicles, Voyah performed the stunt using a heavy, showroom-ready family crossover, the Voyah Zhuiguang S, also known as the Passion S

The all-electric crossover features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain that generates 637 horsepower and 765Nm of torque.

Voyah confirmed that the vehicle remained completely unmodified during the run, retaining its heavy stock battery pack and intelligent driving hardware while using an 800V silicon carbide architecture to deliver instantaneous acceleration.

Initial promotional clips immediately drew online scepticism, with viewers accusing the automaker of relying on video editing tricks and digital animation

Addressing the doubts during the official launch event for the Passion S on 15 August, Voyah published an uncut, single-take video recording of the run to verify its authenticity.

The Passion S is currently positioning itself within China's competitive electric vehicle market, with pre-sale prices starting at roughly 309,900 yuan (RM186,800).
